Polyethylene used and manufactured film, pipe, wire and cable materials, monofilament, daily necessities, hollow products, foam plastics, coatings and adhesives. However, unmodified PE cannot be used as engineering materials. The material rigidity required by engineering structural materials is usually 800 ~ 1000MPa, the strength is more than 100MPa, and the heat resistance is 130 ~ 150 ℃. Therefore, if polyethylene is used as structural material, it must be modified to improve its strength, rigidity and heat resistance, so that these three properties can at least reach the level of general engineering plastics, especially the performance level of reinforced plastics, before it can be used as engineering structural materials.
The only way to realize PE engineering is modification technology. At present, more than 80% of PE resins sold in developed countries are modified PE resins. The use of modification technology plays a very important role in the development of high-performance and low-cost engineering materials.
